German Retailer Recalls Mislabeled Garments

January 30, 2006 BOSTON and MILAN - German retailer Peek & Cloppenburg has recalled all women's coats of the trademark "Ambiance" in the colors black, charcoal, navy, and camel. CCMI had informed Peek & Cloppenburg that independent testing, done at the request of CCMI, had showed these coats, labeled as 100 percent cashmere, to be, in fact, made of a wool/cashmere blend fabric.

CCMI is based in Boston, Massachusetts and maintains an office in Milan. The organization's website www.cashmere.org, which is translated into English, Italian, German, Chinese, and Japanese, has information on luxury fibers, fiber testing, and fiber-content labeling requirements.

We are advised that the recall of a textile product is extremely unusual. The recall was publicized by means of advertisements taken out in several major daily newspapers in Germany. “We are pleased to see that Peek and Cloppenburg has, in response to CCMI's warning, acted to protect the consumers now that this fraud has been discovered," said CCMI president Karl Spilhaus, who continued, "now CCMI will turn to the garment and fabric makers who are culpable."

Much to our regret we could notice that women's coats of the trademark Ambiance were furnished with wrong quality specifications. Contrary to our description and the labeling in the garments, these coats do not consist of 100% cashmere but merely of a high quality cashmere mix. In our responsibility towards the confidence of our customers and the high standards we set for ourselves as a specialized dealer in textiles we recall these coats which were offered inter alia in our "Mode-Journal" of 11 October 2005. The subject matter is women's coats of the trademark Ambiance in the colours black, anthracite, marine and camel.

To all buyers of these articles we hereby offer the return and the unproblematic reimbursement of the purchase price in our houses, preferably upon presentation of the respective receipt.
