Newpaper Articles on Cease and Desist Order to Isetan and Five Foxes

On 11 December 2008, Nikkei Shinbun (the largest financial paper in Japan, equally important as Wall Street Journal in the U.S.) reported that Japan Fair Trade Commission issued Cease and Desist Orders to Isetan Department Store and Five Foxes (a famous apparel wholesaler) on the mislabeling of cashmere products. Also Senken Shimbun reported the same issues on 12 December. Copies are attached with English translation.

The Isetan's case was on the mislabeling of the Indian Stole, which was found in August this year and has already been widely publicized. The Fair Trade Commission took 4 months for investigation and now issued a formal Order. Thus Isetan, unfortunately, was widely exposed in the mass media twice on the same problem. In the case of the Five Foxes problem the stole made in China labeled "70% Acrylic, 30% Acrylic" did not contain any cashmere.

The above two companies, Isetan in particular, have big names in Japanese retail market, and this news gave a strong impact on Japanese cashmere trade. It is good that the problem is widely known by the trade people.
