FTC Cashmere Labeling Conference May 4, 2001

FTC to Host Conference on Cashmere Product Labeling

WHAT:

Staff of the Federal Trade Commission will host a half-day conference on May 4, 2001, at its Headquarters in Washington, D.C. to discuss proper labeling of cashmere products. In recent months, staff has obtained information suggesting that cashmere and cashmere-blend items may contain less cashmere than the amount stated on the label. By statute, U.S. manufacturers, importers, wholesale distributors, and retailers may be held liable for inaccurate fiber content labeling of wool products, including those made with specialty fibers such as cashmere or mohair.
